STC to Receive 140 New Buses in Two Months – Transport Minister

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced that the State Transport Company (STC) will take delivery of 140 new buses within the next two months as part of the government’s broader plan to strengthen public transportation across the country.
The announcement comes as commuters continue to grapple with challenges including inadequate services, overcrowding, and delays, particularly on long-distance routes.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle on Monday, June 8, 2026, Mr. Nikpe outlined ongoing efforts to expand the national transport fleet and improve mobility for Ghanaians.
He noted that the government’s intervention goes beyond the 100 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses commissioned earlier this year, with a specific focus on bolstering intercity services through the State Transport Company.
“We know the difficulties that we are experiencing with transportation but we are very certain that the next 100 MMT buses will come in within the next two months and STC will also have 140 buses and we will be able to have more high occupancy buses,” the minister stated.
The planned addition of the new buses is expected to significantly increase transport capacity, enhance connectivity between major towns and cities, and help ease pressure on the existing public transport system.
The move forms part of the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing transportation challenges and providing more reliable and comfortable services for both commuters and long-distance travellers nationwide.
Further details on the arrival schedule and deployment of the new buses are expected to be announced soon.
