Police Rescue Victim, Arrest Suspect in Viral Domestic Abuse Case

The Ghana Police Service has rescued a young woman who appeared in a widely circulated video pleading for help with a visibly injured left eye and has taken her alleged abuser into custody.

The swift intervention was executed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following the video’s rapid spread across social media platforms.

An intelligence-led operation traced the individuals to Okushibri near Apollonia in the Greater Accra Region, where both the victim and the suspect were located.

Preliminary investigations have identified the suspect as Bright Kpodo, also known as Horror, who is the victim’s partner. He is accused of inflicting the physical injuries documented in the footage.

Mr. Kpodo remains in police custody and is assisting with ongoing inquiries.

The Police Service has confirmed that arrangements are in progress to provide the victim with:

  • Immediate medical attention
  • Psychological counseling
  • Legal and protective support

In a statement, the Police Service reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence and urged citizens to report all forms of abuse without delay.

“Prompt reporting enables swift intervention and prosecution,” the statement read. “Protecting vulnerable individuals is a collective responsibility.”
