Several NDC Incumbents Fall in Techiman South Constituency Elections

Several incumbent executives of the National Democratic Congress in Techiman South have lost their positions in the party’s constituency elections, led by chairman Saliu Alhaji Nuhu, who was defeated by Kwasi Boakye.
The elections, held at Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman, saw Boakye poll 1,203 votes against Nuhu’s 653 to become the new constituency chairman.
Voting ended at 3 pm, with sorting and counting beginning immediately. The results showed significant changes in the constituency’s leadership, as delegates voted out several other sitting executives.
In his acceptance speech after the winners were sworn in, Boakye called for unity and pledged to work towards winning the Techiman South parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party in the 2028 general election.
“My biggest dream is to wrestle power from the NPP in the 2028 parliamentary elections,” he said. “Techiman South has eluded us for too long, but today, we begin the journey to reclaim what is rightfully ours.”
In the contest for communications officer, Baba Issah defeated incumbent Hassan Balluka, polling 1,296 votes against Balluka’s 894. Nuhu Abdul Razak also unseated incumbent Zongo Caucus Coordinator Sa-ad Osman, securing 1,435 votes to Osman’s 919.
Baadire Douglas Calib won the secretary position with 1,277 votes, defeating four other contenders, including incumbent Fosu Nsowaa. Pienaa Eric Kwame also emerged victorious in the assistant secretary contest, polling 1,140 votes to defeat incumbent Salifu Abdul Rashid.
Despite the losses suffered by several incumbents, Women’s Organiser Hajia Mariama retained her position with 106 votes in a closely contested race. Her deputy, Hagar Amoah Yeboah, also held on to her position, polling 112 votes.
Hajia Mariama thanked delegates for their confidence and pledged to continue working towards the party’s victory in the next general election.
“I am grateful to the delegates for their confidence,” she said. “We will continue to work hard, and this time, we are winning Techiman South.”
Other winners included Adam Mohammed as vice chairman with 753 votes, Ibrahim Alhassan as organiser with 869 votes, Nyarko Kwasi as deputy organiser with 1,109 votes, Thomas Doutey Afadolo as treasurer with 1,530 votes, Fuseini Mamata as deputy treasurer with 693 votes, BB Mustapha as youth organiser with 156 votes, Ameyaw Kwame Abu as deputy youth organiser with 166 votes, Sulemana Issahaku as other youth representative with 167 votes, and Daboh Salman Faris as deputy communications officer with 692 votes.
After the results were declared, the venue erupted in jubilation as delegates danced, sang and celebrated what many described as a new beginning for the party in Techiman South.
The new Chairman, Kwasi Boakye, extended an olive branch to his opponents and urged the party to close ranks ahead of the 2028 battle.
“Today is not about winners and losers. Today is about the NDC family in Techiman South,” he said. “Let us put the past behind us and work together. The NPP has held this seat since 2016, but with unity and determination, we will take it back.”
The NDC has not won Techiman South since 2016. In 2020, the party lost by just 477 votes, a result it contested in court but failed to overturn. In 2024, the seat was again at the centre of controversy, with re-collation confirming the NPP’s Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah as winner.
With a new executive in place, the party is hoping the tide will turn. The NDC’s Bono East Regional Chairman, Unas Owusu, has publicly stated that the party will emerge victorious in Techiman South and all Bono East seats in 2028.
The constituency election is seen as the first step in that broader strategy of building a cohesive, well-organised party structure capable of mounting a serious challenge in a constituency that has slipped away for nearly a decade.
