Progress on Chereponi Agenda 111 Hospital Project Hits Roadblock
Residents of Chereponi in the North East Region have expressed displeasure about the slow pace of work on the Agenda 111 hospital project in the area.
Chereponi Agenda 111 Hospital Project Faces Delay
The ambitious project, initiated in 2021 with an anticipated completion date of August this year, has encountered a significant setback. Both Orlin Construction Ghana Limited and Savannah Empires Construction, the contracted firms, have ceased operations, relocating their equipment away from the construction site.
Current Status
While a portion of the project has reached the roofing stage, the majority remains at the foundational level. Additionally, building materials and machinery previously on-site have been removed by the contractors.
According to sources speaking to the Daily Graphic, financial constraints forced the contractors to abandon the project. The Agenda 111 hospital initiative, a flagship endeavor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, seeks to enhance healthcare accessibility in the region.
Presently, Chereponi District relies on a single polyclinic to cater to its healthcare needs, resulting in overcrowding and patients being forced to lie on the floor due to bed shortages.
Residents’ Action
In response to the delay, residents have petitioned the President via the District Assembly, urging swift project completion. Kwame Kojo Mahamud, spokesperson for the residents, expressed skepticism about meeting the project’s deadline, citing the dire healthcare situation in the area.
Mahamud emphasized the potential alleviation of healthcare challenges once the hospital is operational and appealed to the government for expeditious action.
District Response
Mohammed Awolo, the District Coordinating Director, received the petition on behalf of the District Chief Executive and assured residents that it would be forwarded for necessary action.
