Police Rescue Kidnap Victim in Wapuli After Gun Battle; Three Suspects Arrested

The Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has successfully rescued a kidnap victim in Wapuli, Yendi Division, through a rapid intelligence-led operation, arresting three suspects while one remains on the run.
According to a regional situation report, the abduction was reported to the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (TRPID) on December 2, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m. The kidnappers demanded GH₵100,000 ransom from the victim’s family.
Northern Regional Commander DCOP Wisdom Lavoe promptly deployed a five-member team from Tamale RPID to Wapuli for surveillance and rescue. The victim was safely freed on December 5.
In the early hours of December 6, around 12:30 a.m., police confronted the suspects in a fierce gun exchange. The group escaped, abandoning a motorbike registered M 25 NR and a Samsung mobile phone, both seized as evidence.
Later that morning, authorities apprehended three individuals at Bokpaba along the Bimbila-Yendi road: Haruna Seidu, 31; Amidu Bandi, 30; and Osman Bandi, 40. Officers recovered GH₵70,000 believed to be partial ransom, plus two additional motorbikes.
The fugitive is described as armed and dangerous, with the intelligence team in active pursuit. “Further developments will be communicated,” the report stated, as investigations continue to dismantle the kidnapping network.
