GTEC Directs All Applicants for Ministry of Education Jobs to Submit Certificates for Verification

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed all prospective applicants seeking employment in agencies under the Ministry of Education to submit their academic credentials for verification before any appointment is made.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, the Commission said the directive follows clearance granted for recruitment into various agencies under the Ministry. It stressed the need for strict validation of qualifications to maintain the integrity of the education sector.

Applicants are required to present their tertiary-level certificates — including diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and PhDs — for evaluation to confirm their authenticity.

The move is part of broader efforts to address the growing concern over the circulation and use of fraudulent certificates and qualifications obtained from unaccredited or unrecognised institutions.

GTEC, established under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), is mandated to accredit both public and private tertiary institutions and their programmes, as well as verify academic credentials.

The Commission emphasised that the verification process will be a critical part of the recruitment exercise, ensuring that only qualified and duly certified individuals are considered for employment.

It urged all prospective applicants to treat the directive with urgency as the recruitment process advances.

This directive is expected to strengthen transparency and standards within the education sector, particularly as the Ministry prepares to recruit new staff into various agencies.
