Nkawkaw Market Taskforce Cracks Down on Unauthorized Trading at Redevelopment Site

Authorities in Nkawkaw have intensified enforcement at the reconstruction site of the Nkawkaw Central Market, removing traders operating at unauthorized locations as work continues on the redevelopment project.

The exercise, led by the Nkawkaw Market Taskforce in collaboration with traditional authorities, is aimed at ensuring the timely completion of the market. Officials have also announced that confiscated goods from non-compliant traders will be donated to Nkawkaw Senior High School and the SOS Children’s Village Nkwatia.

The redevelopment project has been progressing steadily since traders were temporarily relocated to the Adom Market. However, some traders have returned to the old market site and nearby unauthorized areas to continue their businesses, a situation authorities say is disrupting construction activities.

Traders currently operating at the Adom Market have also complained of low patronage, attributing the decline in customers to the continued operation of businesses at the old market site.

In response, the Market Taskforce carried out an enforcement exercise to remove unauthorized traders and confiscate goods belonging to those who failed to comply with the relocation directive.

According to the authorities, the operation is intended to restore order, protect the construction site and facilitate the successful completion of the market redevelopment project within schedule.

Speaking after the exercise, the Sanaahene of Nkawkaw and Chairman of the Nkawkaw Central Market Reconstruction Committee, Nana Kofi Onwena, appealed to traders to cooperate by relocating to the designated temporary market at Adom Market.

He stressed that the support and cooperation of traders are essential to completing the project on time and delivering a modern market that will serve the needs of residents and businesses across the municipality.
