Major Roads in Accra to Close on Independence Day for Security and Traffic Management

The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures in key parts of Accra on Friday, March 6, as the nation marks its 69th Independence Anniversary celebrations at Jubilee House.

The closures are part of comprehensive security and traffic management arrangements for the national event. In an official statement issued on Thursday, the Police Service listed the affected routes, which will be closed for the duration of the ceremony.

The roads include:

  • Liberation Road, from the Opeibea Intersection towards the Central Business District
  • Independence Avenue, at the Ako Adjei By-pass
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Road

Motorists and commuters are strongly advised to plan alternative routes well in advance and expect delays, especially in the areas surrounding Jubilee House, the main venue for the Independence Day parade and official proceedings.

The Police Service assured the public that the roads will be reopened as soon as the event concludes and it is safe to resume normal traffic flow.

Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official police channels, radio and television broadcasts for any last-minute updates or additional restrictions. Compliance with traffic directives and security instructions will be essential to ensure a smooth and incident-free celebration.

The Ghana Police Service thanked the public in advance for their cooperation and understanding during this important national occasion. Ghana’s 69th Independence Day will feature the traditional parade, cultural displays, and addresses reflecting on the country’s progress and unity.
