NACOC Destroys Cannabis Farms in Upper West Community

The Upper West Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission has destroyed several cannabis farms at Siiru, a community in the Nadowli District near the Black Volta.

NACOC carried out the operation jointly with the Ghana Immigration Service, whose officers gathered the intelligence that led the team to the suspected sites.

The team found cannabis being grown in several places. Some plants had been harvested, while others were at different stages of growth and nearly ready for harvest.

Further searches turned up farms inside unfinished buildings, in front of residential properties and alongside maize farms, which suggests the cultivation was spread across the community. All the plants found were burned.

After the exercise, the officers educated residents on the dangers and consequences of growing cannabis and abusing drugs. They asked the community to help fight illicit drug cultivation and distribution by giving timely information to the authorities.
