Police Arrest Woman and Offer GH¢100,000 Reward for Suspect in Sakumono Double Killing

Police have arrested a woman and declared a man wanted, with a GH¢100,000 reward, over the shooting dead of a 57-year-old man and his 47-year-old niece at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra, in what investigators believe was a dispute over an unpaid GH¢500,000 loan.

The victims, George Atuguba and his niece Irene Atuguba, were killed at their home on Friday, 30th October. Police name the principal suspect as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, who remains at large. They say the woman arrested, 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni, is believed to have led him to the house.

Preliminary investigations indicate the killings may have been triggered by a financial dispute, according to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng. George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect and failed to repay it.

On the morning of the incident, the suspect reportedly went to the house with Mumuni to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly followed, during which he shot and killed George Atuguba and his niece, police said.

Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command who were sent to the house found the bodies lying in a pool of blood. Both victims were rushed to hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead, and their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is leading the investigation.

The Ghana Police Service is offering GH¢100,000 for credible information leading to Osei Anto’s arrest. Anyone with information can report to the nearest police station or call 191 or 18555.

In May, police offered the same reward when they declared a suspected military officer, Prince Krah, wanted over the killing of two people at Saki, near Tema Golf City.

Police say investigations are continuing.
