Massive Fire Engulfs Parts of Makola in Accra

A major fire outbreak has struck Makola in Accra’s Central Business District, destroying properties and merchandise as firefighters battle to contain the raging inferno.

The blaze reportedly spread rapidly through the busy commercial area, affecting several shops and stalls and causing significant damage to goods and other valuables belonging to traders.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the Accra City Fire Station was the first to respond after distress calls were received from the area.

To strengthen efforts at the scene, three additional fire engines from the Ministries, Parliament and Industrial Area fire stations were subsequently deployed.

According to the GNFS, a total of four fire engines are currently involved in the operation to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and businesses.

Firefighters continue to battle difficult conditions as smoke billows through parts of the market area.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, while information regarding casualties and the full extent of damage remains unclear.

Emergency response teams remain on site as containment and extinguishing operations continue.
