Assembly Member Urges Parents to Support Teaching and Learning

The Assembly Member for Asante Akyem Atwedie in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Patrick Antwi Karikari, popularly known as Hon. Kay Kay Sharp Sharp, has called on parents to support teachers in promoting quality education for children.

According to him, while teachers play a vital role in imparting knowledge and shaping the future of pupils, parents also have a responsibility to guide and supervise their wards, especially when they return home with assignments and homework.

Hon. Kay Kay made the appeal during a donation exercise at the Atwedie Presbyterian Primary School as part of activities marking his birthday celebration.

As part of the initiative, he presented teaching and learning materials including school uniforms, reading books, exercise books, pens, pencils and sweeties to pupils of the school to encourage them to take their studies seriously.

Speaking during the event, the Assembly Member said one of the major reasons behind his intervention was the increasing rate of absenteeism among some pupils, largely due to the lack of school uniforms and other basic educational materials.

He stressed the need for parents and community leaders to work together with teachers to ensure children remain in school and receive the support needed to excel academically.

Hon. Kay Kay further encouraged pupils to study hard and remain disciplined in order to secure a brighter future.

Some beneficiaries of the donation expressed excitement and gratitude to the Assembly Member for the gesture, describing the support as timely and beneficial to their education.
