Ablekuma North Ranked Ghana’s Best-Performing District in Multidimensional Poverty Index

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has ranked Ablekuma North Municipal as the best-performing district in Ghana under the latest Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) covering the period between 2021 and 2025.
According to the report, Ablekuma North recorded an average poverty headcount of 8.5 percent over the five-year period and consistently remained among the country’s top ten best-performing districts.
Ablekuma West Municipal followed closely with an average poverty incidence of 8.6 percent, while Korle Klottey Municipal recorded 8.8 percent. Other top-performing districts included La Dade-Kotopon Municipal, Tema West Municipal, Ayawaso Central Municipal, Ayawaso West Municipal, Krowor Municipal, Ledzokuku Municipal, and Asokwa Municipal in the Ashanti Region.
The report also revealed that Ayawaso North Municipal recorded the lowest multidimensional poverty incidence nationwide in 2025 at 5.5 percent.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, the rankings highlight major improvements in access to education, healthcare, sanitation, electricity, and employment opportunities in several urban municipalities, particularly within the Greater Accra Region.
The findings further exposed the continuing disparity between urban and rural Ghana, as districts in the northern parts of the country continue to experience higher levels of deprivation compared to municipalities in southern urban centres.
Officials say the data will support government policy planning, social intervention programmes, and investment targeting aimed at reducing poverty and improving living conditions nationwide.
