Okaikwei North MP Donates Relief Items to Flood Victims, Urges Unity

The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, , has donated relief items to victims of the recent floods in her constituency and appealed to Ghanaians not to politicise the disaster.

Presenting the relief items, the MP conveyed a message of sympathy from to families affected by the devastating floods.

“The President said he is very sad about the flooding that made you lose properties and lives. We all know that it’s not only Alogboshie that was affected, but the entire country,” she said.

Hon. Lardi Awuni stressed that natural disasters affect everyone regardless of political affiliation and urged the public to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue.

“Disaster does not know NPP or NDC. When there is flooding, the water won’t ask about your political colours. So those of you who want to politicise the situation should stop,” she stated.

The MP described Alogboshie as one of the communities hardest hit by the floods, noting that several families had suffered heartbreaking losses.

She recounted visiting bereaved families, including a mother who lost two children to the floodwaters, one of whom had been recovered while the other remained missing. She also mentioned another resident who reportedly lost his wife and three children during the disaster.

Hon. Lardi Awuni encouraged survivors who escaped with their lives to remain hopeful despite losing their possessions.

“If you are alive and only lost property, thank God for your life because money can replace property, but it cannot replace life,” she said.

She further noted that flooding has become a national and global challenge linked to climate change, citing the impact of recent floods in Takoradi, Obuasi, parts of the Central Region and other countries.

The MP also advised residents to observe safety precautions and avoid settling in flood-prone and waterlogged areas to reduce the risk of future disasters.
