Nana Ama Bonsu Enstooled as 15th Asantehemaa, Assumes Stool Name Nana Yaa Akyaa II

Nana Ama Bonsu has been enstooled as the 15th Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom and has assumed the stool name Nana Yaa Akyaa II following the completion of customary rites on Monday, July 6, 2026.

She was formally introduced and accepted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the next Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom.

Nana Yaa Akyaa II succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away in August 2025.

The office of the Asantehemaa is one of the most influential institutions in the governance and cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom. The Queen Mother serves as the highest-ranking woman in Asanteman and plays a central role in preserving the kingdom’s traditions and values.

One of her key constitutional responsibilities is the nomination of a successor to the Golden Stool whenever the office of the Asantehene becomes vacant.
