The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the suspended Vice Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU), Prof. Erasmus Samuel Alnaa, to immediately resume work while investigations into alleged procurement breaches continue.

Prof. Alnaa, who was suspended by the university’s Governing Council in December 2025, reportedly returned to campus on May 7, 2026, in compliance with the directive but initially struggled to access his office because it had been locked following his suspension.

According to reports, he later gained access to the office but was subsequently invited by the Ghana Police Service in Bolgatanga for questioning over his return to work before the investigation committee had completed its work.

In a letter dated May 4, 2026, and signed by GTEC Director-General Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission stated that its directive overrides all previous communications issued by the university’s Governing Council regarding the suspension.

The letter was copied to the Minister of Education, the BTU Council Chairman, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, and other key stakeholders.
