Three Dead, 17 Rescued in Volta Region Road Crash

 

Three people have died while 17 others were rescued following a fatal accident at Woadze near Kpeve on the Kpeve–Asikuma road in the Volta Region.

 

The crash occurred on Friday, May 22, 2026, and involved a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle with registration number GR 8231 C, which was travelling from Abotuase to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.

 

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, personnel from the Peki Fire Station responded quickly after receiving a distress call at about 9:58 a.m.

 

The vehicle was reportedly carrying 20 passengers made up of 11 males, five females, and four children. The impact left the vehicle badly damaged, with several passengers trapped in the wreckage.

 

Firefighters successfully rescued 17 victims, including 13 adults and four children.

 

However, three adults — two men and one woman — lost their lives in the accident.

 

Officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service also assisted in the rescue operation.

 

The injured victims and bodies of the deceased were transported to Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital for treatment and preservation.

 

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, while the Fire Service has again urged motorists to observe road safety regulations and avoid excessive speeding.
