Eastern Regional Minister Launches 2026 Educational Fair, Urges SHS Students to Make Informed Career Choices
Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey Advises Final-Year Students to Focus on WASSCE Performance and Align Programmes with Strengths and Job Market Needs

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has officially launched the 2026 Eastern Regional Coordinating Council Educational Fair at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School.
The week-long fair is designed to help final-year Senior High School (SHS) students explore academic opportunities, develop relevant skills, and gain clarity on various career paths as they prepare to transition from secondary to tertiary education.
Addressing the students, Mrs Awatey emphasised the importance of making wise decisions at this critical stage of their lives.

She reminded them that their performance in the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will significantly determine their chances of gaining admission into tertiary institutions.
“Take your studies seriously and choose programmes that match your strengths, interests, and long-term goals,” she advised.
The Minister highlighted the critical role of education in national development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving access, quality, and relevance of education across the country.
She noted that there is a strong focus on expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and ensuring that academic programmes are better aligned with the demands of the job market.
Mrs Awatey further encouraged students to remain focused and avoid being influenced by fleeting trends or external pressures. She urged them to consider reputable institutions, especially within the Eastern Region, that can provide quality education and better future opportunities.
The Educational Fair brings together various tertiary institutions, training colleges, and career guidance experts to offer students direct information on admission requirements, programme options, scholarship opportunities, and career prospects.
The launch marks the beginning of a series of activities aimed at equipping final-year students with the necessary information and motivation to make informed decisions about their future.
