Six Injured in Head-On Collision on Kumasi–Accra Highway Near Akyem Enyiresi

Six people sustained injuries in a serious head-on crash on the Kumasi–Accra Highway near Akyem Enyiresi on Tuesday.

The accident happened close to the WAPCO Filling Station when a Toyota Vitz (registration GW 707-24), travelling from Accra to Kumasi, drifted out of its lane and collided with an oncoming Hyundai Santa Fe (registration GB 2734-25) heading from Kumasi to Accra.

The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and left six occupants with injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service’s Anyinam Fire Station were quickly dispatched after receiving a distress call.

Firefighters worked at the scene to extricate the victims from the wreckage and ensure they were safely handed over for medical care. All six injured persons were transported to a nearby health facility for treatment.

The Ghana Police Service has since taken control of the scene to investigate the cause of the crash. Preliminary indications point to possible driver inattention or loss of control, though officials say full enquiries are ongoing and will include examination of road conditions, speed, and vehicle factors.

This latest incident adds to concerns about safety along the busy Kumasi–Accra corridor, where head-on collisions and lane drifts remain common causes of serious accidents. Authorities have renewed appeals to motorists to observe speed limits, stay within their lanes, avoid distractions and exercise extra caution on sharp bends and high-traffic stretches.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families as they recover. Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward to assist the investigation.
