Korle-Bu to Conduct Mass Burial of 320 Unclaimed Bodies

The Management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has announced plans to carry out a mass burial of unclaimed corpses currently held at its mortuary due to severe congestion.

In a press release dated December 23, the hospital said the mortuary has reached full capacity, making it necessary to bury all unclaimed, unknown, and unidentified bodies in accordance with approved procedures and regulations.

According to the statement, records indicate that about 320 unclaimed bodies are expected to be included in the mass burial exercise. The hospital has therefore appealed to relatives, next of kin, or any persons with an interest in the bodies to contact management within 21 days of the notice.

The deadline for families to claim the bodies and make the necessary arrangements is on or before January 18, 2026. Any bodies that remain unclaimed after this date will be buried.

The exercise will be carried out in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

Management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has appealed for public understanding and cooperation as it undertakes the exercise to decongest the mortuary and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
