Police Launch Manhunt for Herdsman Who Allegedly Sold Pump-Action Gun to Kasoa Shooting Suspect

The Ghana Police Service has launched a nationwide manhunt for a cattle herdsman suspected of illegally selling a pump-action gun for GH₵4,000 to Mujaheed Suraj, the suspect arrested in connection with the shooting incident at the Odupongkpehe Zongo voting centre in Kasoa during the 2024 general elections.
According to a statement issued by the Central East Regional Police Command on Friday, January 23, 2026, Mujaheed Suraj, arrested on January 17, confessed to the crime and claimed ownership of the firearm used in the incident.
However, the suspect was unable to produce any documentation covering the gun. He told investigators he purchased it in 2024 from a cattle herdsman at Gomoa Potsin in the Central Region for GH₵4,000.
On December 7, 2024, Suraj allegedly discharged the firearm at the polling centre, injuring two victims: Bukari Inusah, aged 34, and Tanimu Adamu Tanko, aged 44. A stationary pickup truck with registration GT 9550-P also sustained damage.
The two victims were rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic for treatment. Police confirmed that both victims are yet to recover fully.
The Central East Regional Police Command has urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the herdsman to contact the police immediately. The manhunt is part of ongoing efforts to trace the source of the illegal firearm and bring all involved parties to justice.
The incident remains under active investigation, with police appealing for public cooperation to ensure public safety and accountability.
