Police Launch Investigation into Viral Video Alleging Unauthorized GH¢400,000 Withdrawal from Mobile Money Agent

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered a full investigation into a viral social media video that claims some police personnel unlawfully withdrew GH¢400,000 from the mobile money account of an agent at Kibi.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that the matter has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau for thorough inquiry.

The video alleges that the money was taken from the account of a mobile money agent without any authorisation. The Police Service said it has already contacted the alleged victim, who is cooperating fully with investigators.

“We are working to establish the facts surrounding the claim,” the statement read. “The outcome of the investigation will be communicated to the public once the inquiry is completed.”

The swift response from the IGP and the assignment to the Professional Standards Bureau reflect the Police Service’s determination to address public concerns raised by the circulating video. Officials emphasised that any misconduct by personnel will be dealt with firmly in line with disciplinary procedures.

The development has drawn significant attention online, with many Ghanaians calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of the case. The Police Service urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed without speculation and to report any credible information directly to the authorities.
