Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Motorist After Road Accident in Maamobi, Accra

Police in the Kotobabi District have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly assaulting another motorist following a road traffic accident in the Maamobi area on Saturday, February 22, 2026.
According to a statement from the Accra Regional Police Command, officers on routine patrol encountered a 24-year-old victim, Yakubu Manan Abdul, who reported that he had been involved in a collision with another motorist identified as Razak Kwanda.
What started as a minor traffic incident quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect attacked and assaulted the complainant, leaving him with injuries.
The patrol team provided immediate assistance to the injured victim, transported him along with his damaged motorbike to the Kotobabi Police Station, and recorded a formal complaint. Investigations commenced right away.
On Wednesday, February 26, 2026, at approximately 9:45 a.m., police successfully arrested the suspect. He has since been granted police enquiry bail and is cooperating with investigators.
The Accra Regional Police Command has used the incident to issue a strong caution to the public:
“Resorting to violence in the aftermath of road accidents or other disputes is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Motorists and members of the public are urged to remain calm and allow law enforcement officers to handle such matters professionally and in accordance with the law.”
Police have appealed to anyone with relevant information including eyewitnesses, dashcam footage, or other evidence to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring justice in all cases.
The victim is receiving medical attention, while the suspect remains under investigation. No further details on the extent of injuries or the condition of the vehicles have been released at this time.
Road traffic disputes that turn violent remain a concern in urban areas of Accra, where police continue to urge patience, restraint, and reliance on legal processes rather than physical confrontations
