Police Arrest Two After Disturbing Child Abuse Video Sparks Public Outrage

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals in connection with a disturbing viral video showing the physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl in Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the arrests followed swift investigations led by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, after the video triggered widespread public concern.

Police identified Grace Mensah as the first suspect arrested through intelligence-led operations in the community. Further investigations later led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, the man seen in the footage assaulting the child.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred on December 6, 2025, after the child reportedly went out and failed to return home. During questioning, Akoto told investigators that he had been given permission by the child’s grandmother to discipline her.

The Police confirmed that the child has since been rescued and placed in safety, while both suspects have been handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Mampong Regional Police Command to assist with further investigations.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of children and warned that all forms of abuse will be dealt with decisively, urging the public to report suspected cases promptly
