Police Arrest Suspected Drug Peddlers, Seize Large Quantities of Narcotics in Kumasi Crackdown

The Ghana Police Service, through the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested several suspected drug peddlers and recovered substantial quantities of suspected narcotic substances during intelligence-led operations across the Kumasi Metropolis.
According to a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026, the operations targeted locations identified through intelligence gathering as major centres for the distribution and sale of narcotic substances.
One of the key operations was conducted at Asawase, where police arrested 61-year-old Kwame Afriyie, popularly known as “Con Papa” or “American Man,” who is suspected to be a notorious drug dealer. A search of his room and provision shop led to the recovery of 33 parcels and 48 additional parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis.
In a separate operation at Asafo, police arrested Kofi Acheampong, also known as “Mokobiley.” A search of his residence uncovered 311 transparent rubber sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves believed to be narcotics, 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics, and quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.
At Krofrom, police also arrested 22-year-old National Service personnel Michael Owusu Agyeman. He was found in possession of 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
Further operations carried out at Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom, and Asafo BB resulted in the arrest of several other suspects, including Adamu Ibrahim, Stanley Boahene, Favour Emmanuel, Abubakar Sadick, Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, Paul Quagraine, Nana Kwasi Amo Peprah, Hamdiyah Ibrahim, Nicholas Adorku, and Natson Yaaba.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs and urged the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing credible information on drug-related activities in their communities.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be processed through the legal system in accordance with the law.
