One Killed, Another Injured as Fuel Tanker Catches Fire at Asutuare Junction

A tanker driver has been burnt to death while his mate sustained injuries after a diesel tanker caught fire at Asutuare Junction in the Eastern Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 28, 2026, with a distress call received at 4:41 a.m.
The Fire Service deployed four fire engines from Somanya, VRA, Akosombo and Gbetsile to the scene. The first response team, led by Station Officer II Achisey from the Somanya Fire Station, arrived at about 5:30 a.m.
Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control at 6:03 a.m. before completely extinguishing it at 6:30 a.m.
In a statement, the GNFS said the diesel tanker and its entire contents were completely destroyed by the fire.
The driver was found burnt beyond recognition at the scene, while his mate was rescued with injuries and transported to Akuse Hospital for medical treatment.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with the Ghana National Fire Service launching investigations into the incident.
Authorities have urged motorists transporting petroleum products to observe all safety regulations to help prevent similar tragedies.
