olice Launch Investigation into Shooting at Tetegu Near Weija

The Ghana Police Service has commenced a full-scale investigation into a fatal shooting incident at Tetegu near Weija in Accra, which resulted in the death of a taxi driver and left a female police officer seriously injured.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Police Service said the incident occurred on Sunday, January 19, 2026, and stemmed from an altercation between the officer and the driver.
Preliminary findings indicate that the policewoman fired a shot at the driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi. The driver was rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the shooting, the officer attempted to leave the scene and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and is currently receiving medical treatment.
At the scene, officers recovered several items as exhibits for the ongoing investigation, including:
- One live 9mm round
- A magazine
- A spent 9mm cartridge
The Police Service assured the public that inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing and that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
