Old Drobo Residents Cry for Toilet Facilities, Accuse MP and DCE of Neglect

Residents of Old Drobo in the Jaman North District are raising concerns over the lack of toilet facilities in the community, a situation they say has forced them to resort to open defecation in nearby bushes.

According to the residents, the absence of public and household toilet facilities has left both men and women with no option but to defecate in open spaces, exposing the community to serious health and sanitation risks.

The residents are appealing to the government, the Member of Parliament for Jaman North, Ahenkwaa Yaw Frederick, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adane George, to urgently intervene and provide a toilet facility for the community.

Community members expressed frustration over what they describe as neglect by their leaders. They alleged that both the MP and their Assembly representative spend most of their time in Accra and rarely visit the constituency to assess the challenges confronting residents.

According to them, the lack of regular engagement with the community has contributed to slow development, with inadequate sanitation infrastructure remaining one of the most pressing concerns.

Residents say the current situation is dehumanizing and unacceptable in modern times, stressing that access to proper sanitation is a basic necessity that should not be overlooked.

The concerns raised by residents reflect a broader sanitation challenge in parts of Ghana. Data from the 2021 Population and Housing Census, cited by the Ghana WASH Project, indicates that about 11 percent of households in the Bono Region still practice open defecation, while only 25 percent have access to at least basic household toilet facilities.

Residents of Old Drobo are therefore calling on authorities to act swiftly to address the situation and improve sanitation conditions in the community.
