NPP Youth Wing Stages “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” Protest Against Selective Justice Under Mahama

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Wing took to the streets of Accra today for the “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” (We Fear No Evil) demonstration, protesting what they call the John Mahama-led government’s “misapplication of justice” and abuse of state power to target opposition figures.

The march, starting at 6:00 a.m. from Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, proceeded peacefully along agreed routes to the Police Headquarters, where protesters submitted a petition highlighting alleged politically motivated arrests and harassment.

National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha confirmed all logistics with police were finalized per the Public Order Act, emphasizing the event’s focus on resisting “growing tyranny.”

Mustapha accused security agencies of “state-sponsored harassment,” citing recent detentions of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) by police, alongside other NPP sympathizers.7295710178ca2fabed He claimed these actions violate the 48-hour detention rule and impose undue bail conditions, contrasting with leniency toward NDC affiliates, and warned that “the youth of Ghana are no longer safe.”

The protest, dubbed a “collective duty” against selective justice, follows a September 19 press conference where Mustapha rallied youth to “rise and demonstrate our abhorrence to the selectivity, the injustice, the perversion of this government.”

Despite Abronye DC’s recent bail release, the NPP proceeded, addressing seven to eight months of alleged systemic abuse.

Police maintained a visible but non-interfering presence, ensuring the event’s peacefulness amid heightened political tensions.

The demonstration signals the NPP’s strategy to challenge the NDC’s handling of state institutions, including probes into figures like Wontumi.
