Bawumia’s Integrity Sets Him Apart in NPP Flagbearer Race – Campaign Spokesperson

Deputy Spokesperson for the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Campaign, Ekua Amoakoh, has described the former Vice President as the standout candidate among aspirants vying for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, citing his integrity, character and leadership qualities.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, January 2, Amoakoh said Dr Bawumia’s reputation has remained intact despite spending more than 16 years under intense public scrutiny in Ghanaian politics, beginning with his role as running mate to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“He has been under a microscope in Ghanaian politics for more than 16 years. Up until now, nobody has been able to tarnish his reputation with any incident of corruption. His character has been almost unimpeachable,” she stated.
Amoakoh further noted that Dr Bawumia’s emotional intelligence and leadership style distinguish him from other contenders, arguing that these qualities are critical for governing a diverse and dynamic country like Ghana.
“It is quite obvious that he stands tall among the rest, especially when it comes to good character and the emotional intelligence required to keep a country as interesting as Ghana together,” she added.
Her remarks come amid growing momentum for Dr Bawumia ahead of the NPP’s upcoming leadership contest. According to the latest National Tracking Poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, the former Vice President has opened a commanding lead in the race to become the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The poll, carried out between December 1 and December 21, 2025, shows Dr Bawumia securing 56 per cent support among all voters. He is followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 28 per cent, while Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum are tied at 6 per cent each. Kwabena Agyapong trails with 4 per cent.
Dr Bawumia’s lead is even more pronounced among core NPP supporters, where he commands 72 per cent backing. Kennedy Agyapong follows with 19 per cent, while Dr Acheampong polls 4 per cent, Dr Osei-Adutwum 3 per cent, and Kwabena Agyapong 1 per cent.
The poll results suggest a race increasingly tilting in Dr Bawumia’s favour, with wide margins separating him from his closest rivals. Analysts say the fragmented nature of the contest could further strengthen his position as the party approaches its January 31 flagbearer election.
