President Mahama Unveils Bold 2026 Plans: Free Healthcare, Digital Schools, and Stronger Anti-Corruption Fight

President John Dramani Mahama has laid out an ambitious vision for Ghana in 2026, promising faster progress on key reforms to improve lives, grow the economy, and strengthen democracy.

In his New Year address to the nation on January 1, 2026, the President said the achievements of 2025 have created a solid base, and the coming year will focus on expanding programs and delivering real results for Ghanaians.

Key highlights from his roadmap include:

Education: The government will push ahead with digitalising schools, making sure every classroom has modern tools for 21st-century learning.

Healthcare: Universal Health Coverage will become a reality through the Free Primary Health Care Programme, meaning no one will be turned away from treatment due to lack of money. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund will also help people living with non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

Agriculture and Food Security: Farming will shift from small-scale survival to big business with more mechanisation, adding value to crops, and better market access for farmers.

Energy: The country aims for 30% of its power to come from renewable sources like solar and wind, which will cut electricity costs and protect the environment.

Housing: New social housing projects will be built through partnerships with private companies to tackle the country’s housing shortage.

Governance and Anti-Corruption: President Mahama promised a tougher fight against corruption with no one above the law—”no sacred cows.” Every public cedi will be properly accounted for.

He also announced plans to implement recommendations from the Constitutional Review Committee to make Ghana’s 1992 Constitution even stronger and deepen democracy.

President Mahama described these steps as part of a renewed effort to create a fairer, more inclusive, and prosperous Ghana for everyone.
