President Mahama Inaugurates Jerry John Rawlings House, Describes Late Founder as Transformational Leader

President John Dramani Mahama has described late former President Jerry John Rawlings as a transformational leader whose vision, commitment to accountability and dedication to national service played a significant role in shaping Ghana’s democratic development.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly named Jerry John Rawlings House, the national headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), President Mahama said the decision to name the facility after the party’s founder was a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy.
According to him, the move is not only intended to honour the immense contributions of the late statesman but also to ensure that the values he stood for continue to guide the party and government.
“Naming this headquarters after him is not only a tribute to his immense contribution to our party and our nation, but also a declaration that the values he championed — integrity, patriotism, sacrifice, courage, discipline and service to the people — must continue to guide our actions as a party and a government,” he stated.
President Mahama noted that the headquarters would serve as a constant reminder that leadership is about serving the people and exercising political power in their interest.
“It serves as a constant reminder to everyone who enters this building that leadership is ultimately about service and that political power must always be exercised in the interest of the people,” he added.
Meanwhile, the son of the late former President, Kimathi Rawlings, expressed gratitude to President Mahama and the leadership of the NDC for honouring his father in such a significant manner.
He described the occasion as more than a ceremonial event, saying it represented a moment of reflection, remembrance and renewed commitment to the ideals championed by Jerry John Rawlings.
“Today has been much more than a ceremonial occasion. It has been a moment of reflection, remembrance and recommitment. By naming this headquarters after Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, the NDC has permanently inscribed his name into the very home of the ideals, sacrifices and aspirations to which he devoted his life,” he said.
The event brought together party executives, government officials, family members and supporters to celebrate the legacy of the late former President and founder of the NDC.
