The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared Kwasi Bonzoh to contest the party’s Western Regional Executive Committee elections after upholding his petition challenging his disqualification during the vetting process.
In a directive dated August 3, 2026, the party’s National Steering Committee said it had considered a petition filed by Mr Bonzoh following his disqualification from the race.
According to the letter, signed by the NPP’s Acting National Chairman, Danquah Buttey Smith, the National Steering Committee deliberated on the petition, which was filed pursuant to Regulation 9 of the Rules and Regulations for the Conduct of the Regional Executive Committee Elections.
“Following its deliberations, the National Steering Committee resolved that Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh be cleared to contest the Western Regional Executive Elections. Accordingly, he is hereby officially cleared to participate as a candidate in the elections,” the letter stated.
The committee further directed the Western Regional Steering Committee to take the necessary steps to give immediate effect to the decision and ensure full compliance with its directives.
The decision overturns an earlier ruling by the party’s Vetting and Regional Appeals Committees, which had disqualified Mr Bonzoh from the Western Regional Secretary race on the grounds that he did not meet the minimum educational qualification for the position.
