Mahama Ayariga Demands Job Quotas for Persons with Disabilities, Calls Street Begging a “National Embarrassment”

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has urged Parliament to pass legislation mandating that factories, corporate institutions, and government agencies reserve employment quotas for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 23, Ayariga described the sight of disabled individuals begging at traffic lights as a “major national embarrassment.

” He asserted that many PWDs are highly qualified and that statutory quotas—similar to gender representation policies—are urgently needed to end formal workforce exclusion.
