Nine Arraigned Over Alleged Shooting Incident Involving Adwoa Safo

Nine individuals linked to the alleged shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court.

Among the accused is the former MP’s brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, who appeared in court alongside eight others under heavy police escort and in handcuffs.

Their appearance follows their arrest in connection with an incident in which Adwoa Safo reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during a gathering on Sunday, June 22.

According to reports, the shooting occurred during the installation ceremony of Kwadwo Safo as leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, an event that has become the focal point of a growing leadership dispute within the mission.

Security and investigative reports indicate that a search conducted at a residence and vehicle in Kwabenya led to the discovery of several rounds of ammunition, including 9mm, .45 calibre and .40 calibre rounds, loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols. One of the firearms is reportedly registered in the name of Israel Safo.

The case is believed to be linked to tensions surrounding the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, in September 2025.

According to the family of the late founder, Adwoa Safo had been appointed head of the family by her father and was carrying out responsibilities assigned to her before his passing.

The family further maintains that it does not recognize any alternative leadership claims attributed to Israel Safo, arguing that such claims are inconsistent with succession directives allegedly left by the late Apostle Safo.

The accused persons remain in custody as investigations continue and the court begins preliminary hearings into the matter.
