67-Year-Old Grandmother Arrested at Airport with 13kg of Suspected Cocaine Hidden in Plantain Peels

A 67-year-old Nigerian-British grandmother has been arrested at the after she was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle approximately 13 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed inside plantain peels.

According to reports, the suspect was intercepted during routine outbound screening at the airport’s departure hall after security officials flagged her luggage for further inspection.

A subsequent search allegedly uncovered the suspected cocaine, which investigators say had been carefully concealed inside hollowed-out plantain peels made to resemble fresh produce.

Authorities believe the illicit consignment was destined for the United Kingdom. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and determine whether other individuals may have been involved.

The arrest has generated widespread public reaction, with many expressing surprise that an elderly woman would allegedly be linked to a suspected drug trafficking operation. Others have suggested that financial difficulties, coercion, deception or exploitation by criminal networks may have influenced the alleged offence.

The suspect remains under investigation, and if found guilty by a court of law, could face serious drug trafficking charges.
