Former Employment Minister Nii Armah Ashitey has officially announced his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Ashitey made the declaration at a press conference on Friday, 25 September, outlining his vision of building a more inclusive and participatory party.
He said his campaign would focus on strengthening the NDC’s organisational structures, deepening internal democracy and ensuring that the grassroots receive greater attention.
Mr Ashitey also identified cadres, former party executives, youth and women as key groups whose participation in the affairs of the party must be strengthened.
“Give me the opportunity to serve as national chairman. I will work towards a more inclusive, united, participatory NDC, where the grassroots, cadres, former executives, youth, women, and all committed members will have a meaningful place in the affairs of our party,” he said.
According to him, the party also needs to rebuild relationships among its members and create an environment where every member feels valued and able to contribute.
“We must strengthen our structures, deepen internal democracy, rebuild the bonds of comradeship, and ensure that the NDC remains a party where every member matters and every contribution counts,” he said.
He subsequently made his intention to contest the position official, declaring: “I hereby declare my intent to contest the national chairmanship of the great NDC party.”
Mr Ashitey joins other prominent NDC members who have expressed interest in the national chairmanship position.
They include former Local Government Minister Akwasi Opong-Fosu and former DRIP Coordinator and former Odododiodioo MP, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
