Kwabre East NDC Youth Call for Security Ahead of Constituency Elections

The Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti Region have called on security agencies to urgently provide adequate security ahead of the constituency elections scheduled for Saturday, 23 October 2026.

The group expressed concerns over alleged threats and possible intimidation of delegates and other party members ahead of the elections, urging the security agencies to take immediate steps to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process.

Speaking to the media, the leader of the group, Abdul Mumuni Saeed, alleged that the incumbent Constituency Chairman and the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwabre East, Hon. Joseph Nurudeen Amankwah, would allegedly use thugs to intimidate opposing candidates and their supporters during the elections.

He further raised concerns about the suitability of the proposed election venue at Aboaso Gyamfi-Wonoo, arguing that the facility might not be spacious enough to accommodate the expected number of delegates and party members on election day.

According to him, the group has already brought its concerns to the attention of the regional authorities, but no action has been taken to address the issues raised.

Some members of the group also expressed fears for their personal safety, claiming that they had received several threats ahead of the elections.

They indicated that they had petitioned security agencies within the constituency, as well as the regional party leadership, to intervene and address their concerns before the election day.

The group stressed that adequate security arrangements were necessary to protect delegates, candidates and party supporters and to prevent any incidents that could disrupt the electoral process.

They therefore called on the Kwabre East Municipal Chief Executive, the regional NDC leadership and the relevant security agencies to take their concerns seriously and ensure that the elections were conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

The group warned that they would hold the Municipal Chief Executive and the regional party leadership responsible should they fail to act on the concerns raised and any unfortunate incident occur during the elections.
