Oppong Nkrumah Accuses Majority of Blocking GoldBod Losses Probe

The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, , has accused the Majority in Parliament of deliberately frustrating investigations into alleged financial losses linked to the (GoldBod).

In a Facebook post responding to comments by GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, , the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP alleged that the Majority has consistently blocked attempts to subject the matter to parliamentary scrutiny.

“You claim to welcome a probe, yet you have been evading a Parliamentary investigation into the Gold losses of billions of cedis since March 27th,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah stated.

He further claimed that Majority members in Parliament had obstructed every attempt to investigate the issue, insisting that the truth would only emerge through a formal parliamentary inquiry conducted under oath with supporting documents subjected to scrutiny.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah challenged Mr Gyamfi to openly support the inquiry he said he initiated earlier this year.

“If you are as confident of your case as your posts suggest, be the loudest voice in your party today demanding that the inquiry I initiated on March 27th be allowed to proceed,” he added.

The former Information Minister argued that the matter should not be reduced to political exchanges on social media but handled through proper parliamentary accountability mechanisms.

He also referenced what he described as the Bank of Ghana’s “substantial loss of GH¢34.9 billion,” accusing the governing (NDC) of failing to uphold its promises of financial discipline.

According to him, the responsibility for addressing the matter officially lies with Finance Minister , who he said must present the relevant accounts before Parliament.

“Until he does, answers are only required from you in a Parliamentary inquiry on the record and under oath,” he stated.
