Former Head of Writers at the Communications Directorate of the Office of the President, Jubilee House, and International Relations Expert, Justice A. Newton-Offei, has criticised Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, accusing her of being used to advance what he describes as an NDC propaganda agenda.
Newton-Offei made the allegations in a Facebook post in which he questioned the substance and origin of comments attributed to the CID Director-General.
He described the remarks as among the most inappropriate statements he had encountered from the head of a country’s criminal investigations department.
“The CID boss is a puppet,” Newton-Offei wrote.
Claims statement was politically motivated
Newton-Offei alleged that the statement attributed to COP Donkor was not the result of independent intelligence work by the Ghana Police Service but, in his view, constituted what he called “pure NDC propaganda material.”
“As a speech strategist, I can easily deduce that what she claims to be the work of intelligence by the Ghana Police Service, is nothing but pure NDC propaganda material,” he stated.
He further alleged that COP Donkor had merely delivered a statement prepared elsewhere and handed to her for presentation.
“Yaako Donkor only read a statement that was prepared at the NDC Adabraka headquarters and was handed to her to recite,” he claimed.
Newton-Offei compared what he described as the delivery of a prepared political message to children reciting speeches during school events.
Accuses CID boss of targeting political opponents
He further alleged that the CID Director-General was being used as a conduit to communicate attacks against political opponents.
“She was only being a conduit for propagating NDC venom against their political opponents, and ended up casting a pitiful image of herself as a puppet of a master-puppeteer,” he wrote.
The comments follow a September 18 briefing by COP Donkor on ongoing police investigations into alleged publication of false news, inciteful comments and offensive conduct involving TikTok account operator Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof,” as well as the arrest of nurse Salomey Awiti Bafoh.
Newton-Offei’s assertions about the alleged political origins of the CID statement have not been independently established in the information available, and no evidence was provided in his post to substantiate the claim that the statement was prepared at the NDC’s Adabraka headquarters.
