Security Agencies Ensure Safety for NPP Conference as Gov’t Addresses Cathedral and Nursing Trainee Issues

On July 18, 2025, personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Ghana National Fire Service, alongside the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Organising Committee, conducted a thorough inspection of the University of Ghana Sports Complex, the venue for the NPP’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for July 19, 2025.
The joint exercise aimed to assess security arrangements and ensure compliance with safety protocols for the high-profile event, which is expected to draw party executives, former government appointees, and delegates from across Ghana.
Adom News reporter Kofi Akowuah Twum noted that the inspection reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to a peaceful and well-coordinated gathering, with strict measures like accreditation checks, restricted zones, and a ban on campaign materials to maintain order.
Concurrently, the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, assured nursing trainees that their allowances, known as “alawa,” will be paid regularly, addressing past delays.
The government disbursed GH¢462 million for six months’ allowances for over 120,000 trainees, starting July 16, 2025, fulfilling President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise.
Meanwhile, Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced a 4 p.m. press briefing on July 18, 2025, to address the National Cathedral controversy, following the Board’s opposition to converting the site into a Cultural Convention Centre.
The government previously halted public funding and dissolved the Secretariat, with ongoing investigations into procurement issues.
