NACOC Seizes Over 2.3 Tonnes of Suspected Cannabis in Volta Region Raid

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized more than 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis during a major anti-drug operation at Gbi-Wegbe near Hohoe in the Volta Region.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, following intelligence gathered by the Commission regarding a suspected drug storage facility in the area.

According to NACOC, its officers raided a farmhouse and warehouse believed to have been used for the storage of large quantities of illegal narcotics.

The operation led to the recovery of 2,372.38 kilograms of suspected cannabis, with an estimated street value of GH¢1.18 million.

The Commission indicated that the seizure forms part of ongoing nationwide efforts to combat the cultivation, storage, trafficking, and distribution of illegal drugs across the country.

Although no arrests have been made so far, NACOC says investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend individuals connected to the operation.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics operations and disrupting criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
