Kurasia Community to Get First School, Ending Long Walks for Pupils

Residents of Kurasia, a remote community in the Garu District of the Upper East Region, are set to benefit from their first-ever school, a major step toward improving access to education.

For years, children in Kurasia and nearby communities such as Kpalsako, Buusvara, and Nwadug have had to walk several kilometres daily to towns like Songo and Kugri to attend school. The new facility is expected to significantly reduce this burden and improve school attendance.

The Member of Parliament for Garu, Thomas Winsum Anabah, has welcomed the initiative, describing it as a critical intervention to address longstanding educational challenges in the area.

According to him, the project will not only shorten travel distances for pupils but also help increase enrolment and retention.

“I am hopeful the school will begin enrolment in September. The foundation of the work looks solid,” he stated, while commending the contractor for the progress made so far.

Residents have expressed relief and optimism, noting that the new school will ease the hardship faced by children and give them a better chance at consistent education.

The project is expected to begin admitting pupils in September, marking a new chapter for education in Kurasia and surrounding communities.
