Igbo Leader Abandons Plan for Igbo Village in Ghana, Cites Land Issues

Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, leader of the Igbo community in Ghana, announced on TV3’s Hot Issues on July 20, 2025, that plans to establish an Igbo village in Ghana were abandoned in 2013 due to the inability to secure land.

Speaking to host Keminni Amanor, Ihenetu clarified that the community currently owns no land for such a project, dismissing claims of intending to build an “Igbo Kingdom” as misinformation spread by bloggers.

The proposed 50-acre estate, envisioned to include houses, hotels, shopping malls, and markets, aimed to provide security and peace for Igbo business owners facing harassment in local markets, such as at Tiptoe Lane in Circle.

Ihenetu recounted unsuccessful attempts to purchase land from the Chief of Old Ningo, Nene Osoroagbo Djangmah XII, which were halted due to litigation issues after initial discussions in 2012.

He emphasized that the vision was for a community estate, not a kingdom, and was abandoned after repeated setbacks.
