Four Dead, 19 Injured in Fatal Crash on Buipe–Tamale Highway – Trailer Truck Flees Scene

Four people have been confirmed dead and 19 others injured following a serious road accident on the Buipe–Tamale highway at Sawaba No. 2 on Tuesday.

The crash involved a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 9332-17, which was travelling from Buipe towards Kumasi, and a trailer truck. According to reports, the trailer truck fled the scene after the collision.

Personnel from the Buipe Fire Command of the Ghana National Fire Service responded quickly to the distress call. By the time firefighters arrived, 19 passengers had already been rescued by bystanders and were transported to the Buipe Government Hospital for treatment.

Fire officers then worked to extricate three passengers who were trapped in the wreckage of the minibus.

Four victims — two males and two females — lost their lives in the accident. Three died on the spot, while the fourth succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the police for preservation and further investigations.

The injured are receiving treatment at the Buipe Government Hospital, though the severity of their conditions has not been fully detailed.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and are actively seeking the driver of the trailer truck that fled the scene.

This latest fatal accident on the Buipe–Tamale highway has once again highlighted concerns about road safety on this busy corridor, particularly involving heavy-duty vehicles.
