Police Foil Planned Robbery Operation; Weapons Recovered

The Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department, in collaboration with the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, has foiled a planned robbery attack and recovered a cache of weapons linked to a suspected robbery syndicate.
According to the Police, the operation followed intelligence gathered on the activities of Ali Mohammed, a 23-year-old robbery suspect wanted in connection with several violent robbery incidents.
Police said the suspect was being pursued over the shooting and killing of Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road in the Ahafo Region on April 12, 2026.
He was also reportedly linked to two separate robbery attacks at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026, incidents that allegedly resulted in the death of a driver’s mate.
During a police operation at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region on June 2, 2026, the suspect allegedly opened fire on officers with an AK-47 rifle.
Police stated that he was overpowered during an exchange of fire and sustained gunshot injuries.

He was subsequently transported to the Goaso Government Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, one pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a motorbike ignition key, a black nose mask, four talismans, and a sack.

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other suspected members of the syndicate, including individuals identified as Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, Suley, and several accomplices currently on the run.
