Five Rescued as Floods Wreak Havoc in Adabraka–Odawna Area

At least five people have been rescued following severe flooding in the Adabraka–Odawna area of the Korle-Klottey Municipality after heavy rains battered parts of Accra.

The rescue operation, being led by the Ghana Police Service’s Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), is still ongoing as emergency personnel work to evacuate residents trapped in their homes by rising floodwaters.

The Korle-Klottey Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) described the situation as overwhelming but assured the public that every effort is being made to rescue all affected persons.

He also appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with emergency responders, and strictly adhere to safety instructions while rescue operations continue.

The flooding was triggered by heavy rainfall that began late on Sunday, June 28, and persisted into the morning of Monday, June 29, inundating several communities across Accra.

Major roads were submerged, disrupting traffic flow and leaving many commuters stranded during the Monday morning rush hour.

Floodwaters were reported in several low-lying communities and along key arterial roads, forcing motorists to navigate waterlogged streets cautiously, while others abandoned flooded routes altogether.

The prolonged downpour caused widespread traffic congestion and made it difficult for many residents to travel to work and school.

Emergency agencies have advised the public to avoid flooded areas, exercise caution while travelling, and promptly report emergencies as rescue and relief efforts continue across the affected communities.
