FDA Warns: All Food Businesses Without Valid Hygiene Permit Face Closure from February, 2026

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a strict warning that any food service business operating without a valid Food Hygiene Permit will be closed down starting February 1, 2026.
The directive covers a wide range of establishments, including:
Restaurants
Lounges and bars
Hotels
Chop bars
Snack bars
Bakeries
Food vans
Event caterers
Online food delivery businesses
Canteens in schools, hospitals, offices and other institutions
The enforcement action is being taken under Section 130(1) of the Public Health Act, 2012, which makes it mandatory for all food businesses to register with the FDA and comply with hygiene and safety standards.
Any business found operating without the required permit after the deadline will remain closed until it fully regularizes its operations and obtains FDA approval.
The FDA urged all affected operators to take immediate steps to apply for and secure their permits to avoid any disruption to their businesses.
“Your well-being, our priority,” the Authority stated, emphasizing that the move is solely aimed at protecting public health and ensuring food safety across the country.
Food business owners seeking guidance or wishing to apply for permits are advised to contact the FDA directly through its official channels or visit the nearest FDA office.
The announcement serves as a final reminder ahead of the enforcement date, with the FDA vowing strict compliance monitoring
