Fire Guts Six Shops at Top Ridge in Takoradi, Causing Heavy Losses

A fire outbreak has destroyed six shops, including the popular Asanka Restaurant, at Top Ridge in Takoradi in the Western Region, causing the loss of properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, after an electrical explosion reportedly occurred in one of the meters mounted on the shops. According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread rapidly to adjoining structures within minutes.

A security guard in the area, identified as Seidu, said the blaze started in one shop before engulfing two others, creating panic among residents and shop owners. Locals attempted to control the fire using available means while others frantically contacted the Ghana National Fire Service.

The situation worsened as the fire continued to spread, prompting several shop owners to rush to the scene in a desperate attempt to salvage their goods. By the time fire tenders arrived at about 10:42 p.m., significant damage had already been done.

Three fire tenders were eventually deployed to the scene, and firefighters spent about 30 minutes battling the blaze before bringing it under control. Two shops were completely destroyed, while four others were partially damaged.

Although no injuries were reported, residents expressed frustration over the delayed arrival of fire personnel, calling for improved emergency response systems to prevent similar incidents in the future. Investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of the fire.
