Eastern Regional Minister Hands Over Five Metro Mass Buses to Boost Public Transport in Koforidua

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has handed over five buses to the Koforidua branch of Metro Mass Transit Limited as part of government’s ongoing fleet expansion programme aimed at improving public transportation across the country.
The buses form part of 12 allocated to the Eastern Region under a nationwide distribution of 100 newly procured 29-seater buses intended to strengthen public transport services and enhance mobility.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Minister explained that the buses will be stationed in Koforidua to improve transport operations within the region and support commuters.
“I was pleased to hand over keys to five (5) buses, out of twelve (12) allocated to the Eastern Region under Government’s fleet expansion programme, to the Koforidua Branch of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to support public transportation services in the Region,” she said.
She further noted that the initiative reflects government’s commitment to expanding access to safe, reliable, and affordable transport services for residents across the country.
According to her, improving public transport infrastructure remains a key priority in enhancing economic activity and easing movement within communities.
Madam Awatey also urged management of Metro Mass Transit Limited to prioritize regular maintenance of the buses to ensure efficiency, reliability, and long-term service delivery.
“I also encouraged management to prioritise proper maintenance to ensure efficient operations and reliable services within and beyond the Eastern Region,” she added.
